9 to 12 Months Baby Food Chart

Having a baby in 9 to 12 Months is exciting. The way he holds tiny things in his hand and puts them in his mouth melts mom's  heart. Then our food journey starts. We wanted to give variety of foods. After scrolling reels on baby food I am also tempted to make the same food and feed my babies. But you all know what works for others does not necessarily work with us. Especially our Indian baby takes a long time to eat the food compared to the screen baby 😉 Right?

I have an older daughter who is 10 years old. I have gone through the solid phase, picky eating phase and all. I have gone through the mommy- guilt too. So this time I am not getting any stress.

Sometimes we flow with the social media unknowingly and sometimes withdraw, did this happen with you?

I took some ideas but not implemented yet 😂 rather than sticking with mom instinct and our traditional food. Yes! I didn't start any liquid food rather than Ragi Malt. Apart from that I stick with the mushy structure of food like dal, apple, pear, rice, and all. Not given anything in puree form except soup that too mostly chicken soup, mutton soup, tomato soup and carrot soup.

PS : Pixabay

I am sharing a real food chart .... Ha ha you can say chart because I am into a habit of feeding them every 2, 3 hours instead of giving everything at the same time. Because they tend to throw more and eat less. Pheww you know mom, this phase is quite exciting and cleaning is more irritating.

These can be start 7 months onwards too

What do you need to have daily food eating habit?

Now you will have to have plates, spoons and high chair, right.

I have plates. Silicon one so that my twin not able to throw it 😭. You can find it here very reasonable and pocket friendly.

And if your budget is more 😜 then you can have a high chair too.

I like this spoon set specially designed for babies. Don't forget to check this here. I am very happy with this set because my twins are more interested to eat fruits with this fork.

Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist nor pediatrician. Sharing my experience as a mom so that if you are a new mom, you should not stress too much about feeding your baby.

All these food items consume by us too. So trying to make variation and without stress. Make only one meal which goes well with all

Points to remember:

👶Baby sometimes eat very well. Somedays only eat lunch / dinner. And that is okay. They eat as per their body requirements. As a mom accept it and do not force them to do anything.

👶 Try to minimise your breastfeeding as much as possible. Instead give them snacks, water, juice or their favourite snacks.

👶 Try to keep a long gap say at least 3 to 4 hour between each meal. Then only they can have good intake of food.

👶 Give them floor time, play time. The more they will play the more they will be hungry.

👶 Play with them, run with them and keep them on the floor always. 12 to 15 months babies are in the walking phase so do allow them to explore. Let them be their own. And so they will get tired and will eat food.

👶 Do not give water during the meal time because they will drink more water and hence will eat less. (My experience: my babies will play more with water and less eating)

👶Do not offer biscuits. I can say do not eat biscuit or any junk food in front of them. They will be eating healthy food if you eat healthy food.

👶 Do not get tempted through social media. You can have ideas, knowledge but do not compare your baby with screen baby.

Reminder to Mom's

Do not compare your baby with other babies If your baby is gaining moderate amounts of weight and not frequently sick that means your baby is healthy. No matter how thin or how chubby he/she.

Do not take a stress of anyone's comments. People are there to comment unnecessary things always. So do not take stress.

Hope this will help you. If not then please consider sharing it with newly moms. This is realistic baby food chart and basic food items which are healthy and fulfilling too. It provides necessary nutrition as everything is homemade. Try to include most of vegetables as you can.

Easy 3 Festival Sweet And Spicy Menu For Busy Toddler moms

Happy Wednesday,

Sweet and spice is mandatory part of our Indian meal. Without sweet dish any festival meal is incomplete. To balance the sweetness you have to have spice in a thali. Festivals have already started and the remaining 4 months are filled with many festivals. Each festival has different kinds of food and I am grateful to be able to follow food rituals.

PS : Pinterest

We mom always wanted to feed our family homemade delicious food specially at the festival. But with a whining toddler it is very difficult. First to keep our mood happy and second to keep our motivation to cook delicious food. I know, it is difficult and we ended up bringing outside food. Because today we easily get festival food from the food centre. But nothing tastes better than homemade food. Agree?

Cooking for my family is something I love. I always love to feed simple, yet healthy and homemade meals. Currently, I am going through the toddler phase and the elder one is a foodie.  I don't want to compromise on her food intake. Though she has a limited favourite food, I always wanted to cook for her and love the way she gobbled it and then slept for hours 😂

Don't forget to check :

Being a twin toddler mom and sticking to calm 😄( trying ) my intention to make some simple festival recipes which can be cooked in 30 minutes (subject to conditions you have some small prep work 😜). The festive month has already started so don't be sad and enjoy this easy peasy menu. Do not get tempted to make tons of item. Stick to the basic.

Sharing what I used to make for a festival for my family - twin toddlers, one 10 year old and 2 adults. This easy menu consists of sweet and spicy food items which are balanced meals.

Without a further ado, let's start.

1. Seviya kheer + dry aloo sabji + Puri + papad + achar + salad

This is my go to meal, easy to prepare and not time consuming. I have boiled potatoes in my fridge for every week as a part of meal prep .  I do not use any onions for this curry. Giving tadka with combination of  jeera, hing, whole red chilli, turmeric, red chilli powder, kitchen King masala and salt with diced boiled potato. Fry till it gets crispy and garnish with sesame seeds and kasoori methi. Dry Aloo is ready.

Shevaii kheer is one of our family favourites. Roast shevaii in ghee. Boil milk on another pan. Add roasted shevaii and boil till it becomes thick. Then add sugar, dry fruits and cardomom powder. Yummy kheer is ready in 15 minutes.

Fry some puri. If the dough is already ready then it will take only 15 minutes to make poori.

Your thali is ready. Serve with some salad. Here I use cucumber and carrot slices with some fried papad and mango pickles.  My toddlers eat salad, kheer and poori.

2. The second Thali:

Semolina kheer + chana masala + poori + yellow rice + achar + lachcha onion with lemon + papad.

The Kheer recipe is the same as the sevai recipe. Roast semolina till it gets brown colour. Add custard powder to this kheer. It takes this simple kheer on a high level. Try it once, you will love it.

I made different versions of chana masala depending on time and mood.

Sometimes malvani chana masala where I use grinded coconut and onion masala. Will share this recipe very soon.

Sometimes dry chana masala without onion and tomato. Frying boiled chana with a variety of powder masale. Garnish with chopped coriander.

Some time I made choley masla with onion tomato gravy. The basic Punjabi chole masala keeps it as simple as possible.

Yellow rice is again simple. Giving tadka in ghee with hing, jeera, curry leaves and turmeric, followed by wash rice with salt. I made it in the cooker with one whistle.

Your second Thali is ready. Serve it with lachcha onion and lemon. Taste awesome 😎

The third menu is the typical Maharashtrian Menu :

Dal + Rice + Potato green curry + poori + shrikhand + kurdai ( papad type)

You can cook dal rice in a pressure cooker. Sometimes I did not give any tadka. Whisk dal and add salt. Serve it on a rice with dalloop of ghee. Yumm,🤩

Maharashtrian potato curry is famous and simple which is used in Vada paav. No onion no tomato only using crushed garlic and green chilli. Garnish with crushed peenut and fistful coriander.

Shrikhand is store bought and poori. Yumm.

Maharashtrian easy thali prepare in 30 minutes only. You can make dal and rice in pressure cooker and at the same time boil potatoes too. It saves your time and gas. The main tempting items of this thali is Shrikhand and kuradai. I love to eat only shreekhand poori.

These are easy peasy recipe. Almost every Indian mom know it. My tip is always choose menu simple and your family favourite. So you will not feel any guilt that you unable to cook. Try this simple sweet and spicy menu. Share your also.

I like sweet one most of the time. My favourite is kheer poori and Shrikhand poori.

What is your favourite dish ? Do you like Sweet or Spicy?

Rakshabandhan : Anecdote

It has a special place in my heart. It is my favourite festival especially after my marriage. My Aai and my sister came two days before for this festival at my father's house and we had a blast.

With an endless night session including in deciding of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Aai always brings sweets of our choices specially Pappas favourite and we all gobble it very fast.

How do we celebrate ?

Sometimes we draw mehandi. Get up early in the morning with Pappas voice. He wakes up early and starts to wake up us early too. With his endless talk, ( kadhi uthnar, kadhi angholi karnar, lavakar utha ...n ..bla...bla..bla)

Means he insisted on getting up early and having a bath and getting ready for the day. Whereas we all were lazy and got up one by one up to 11: 30 - ready for the day.

Then we ate a tasty breakfast made by my Aai and began our celebration. We never saw muhurt for this because my father never believed in all this stuff.

He gets ready first always and we saw Bhai bahan ka pyaar. She is older than him and he still bends down to touch her feet. He never sat without a handkerchief on his head. He loves to have sweets which she bought. Malai Barfi was his favourite.

Then we all siblings followed the rituals. Photosession is always there. We spend at least 1 hour in photos especially family pics. When there was no social media we tend to eat sweets as much as possible and then have a special lunch.

My father always flows with time. He learnt social media too. He learnt how to take a selfie.

Father's feelings for the festival:

Rakshabandhan start with Pappa first. He was always waiting for this festival. Though he didn't speak too much with his sister, he loved her sister very much. She always bought shirt pieces and he always wears the same for next rakshabandhan.

(With hope next generation also follow the emotional bond.)

We have been watching them since my childhood and we learned a lot. We siblings had a fight and some tough moments too. But both my pappa and my Aatya taught us how to have an emotional bond with each other.

Today my father is no more. While writing this post my eyes are filled with tears. I missed him so much. First time in life I realised we are no more without our father. He was always there for us. He taught values, respect and most importantly how to love each other in spite of having differences of opinion.

Because

That is our family. Mummy, pappa and we 4 siblings including our base, pillar my Aatya and Tai. I wished her to have a long life and a healthy life.

It's been 3 months. But still I feel he is with us. Watching us and showering his blessings.

Today post is dedicated to my father and Aai. We missed you pappa.

BLW : Palak Chilla 8 Months +

Baby Lead Weaning with traditional and trusted food.

BLW  - It is a tough process but it teaches you lots of things 😁. Patience, calm and  motivation Right Mommies?  Who have gone through this phase ?

They know it is tedious and hectic but we are in nurturing baby . Still every mom is highly motivated to do this task.

What is BLW?

Baby Lead Weaning actually it is baby lead feeding. The stage where you have to start solid food to your baby.

With use of social media you get stimulated highly amount of information. But I trust mostly on our traditional food. I always consider to ask my mom or my bua what to feed and whether to feed it or not. Though everything available on our fingers tips.

And second thing is our mommy- gut feeling. Try our variation because you have to feed multiple times of the day to this tiny human. So do not get demotivated and go blindly our trusted traditional food for babies.

How do you prepare food for babies?

When you are in a nuclear family where you are alone to cook meals and feed your family be smart and prepare two in one meal. So that you don't need to waste too much time in making meals and cleaning utensils. You know the more food preparation the more utensils need to wash. So do smart work.

I am sharing easy BLW recipes and at the same time we adults can have too. You may know it  but trying it for baby is new for many moms. Because when I  served my babies I got the first question do they have teeth ?

Baby don't need teeth to chew food. They can eat anything you give. Just make sure it should be soft and in small thin pieces.

Chilla / Pancake we usually have for breakfast. It is protein packed and for me easy peasy can be prepared in 10 minutes.

I am sharing baby friendly chilla / pancake recipes. First you make it for the baby and then add spices accordingly for the adults portion. 😉 smart work. Always sit as a family to eat the same food.

Let's check out the recipe:

Palak Chilla ( 8 months + )

Ingredients :

1 cup besan

1/4 cup palak puree

1/2 small onion finely chopped ( optional)

Salt as per taste (skip if baby is below 12 months)

Black pepper powder 1/8 tsp

Jeera powder: 1/8 tsp

Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp

Carom Seeds / Ajwain: pinch

Water to make a slurry as per requirement

Direction:

- To begin , mix all ingredients in besan.

- Add slowly water and make lumpsfree slurry.

- Heat a skillet and apply some ghee.

- Pour 1 spoon of batter and spread a little bit.

- Make a small size pancake and drizzle a little bit of ghee from the side.

-  wait for some time until the chilla start to leave the edges from bottom.

- Then flip it and toast until it becomes crispy.

- For baby keep it moist and soft.

Besan palak Chilla is ready. Serve it with homemade curd.

--------

Nutrition Value :

Palak aka spinach provide vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin K which improves immunity and iron level too in your baby body.

Besan aka chickpea flour protein packed and easy to digest. Don't forget to add ajwain for good digestion. It improves immunity. Beneficial with cold and cough.

BLW Palak Chilla

Some points to be remember while preparing this dish

- You may add or omit any masala. Keep your measurements according to your preference.

- You can make it thin like a dosa or can make it thick like a pancake. It depends on your baby likes.

- If you are serving it for the first time then make it thick and try to keep it soft. So that baby can easily chew it.

- If your baby is 12 months + then make it as per the babies preference. You know very well babies taste and preference keeps on changing.

Questions for the day :

What do you prefer to feed your babies pancake or traditional chilla?
